History of the 41st Infantry Division
The 41st Infantry Division was activated in July
1917 in Fort Greene, North Carolina as a National Guard unit from
the Northwest. Due to the Division's close association with the
Pacific Northwest it quickly picked up the name "Sunset Division".
During World War II, the 41st was the first Division to go overseas
after the attack on Pearl Harbor and served longer than ny other
unit, which gave them the nickname of the "Jungleers".
The 41st Infantry Division is currently part of the Oregon National
Guard and was deployed for peacekeeping operations in the Sinai
Peninsula in 2001.
